WORKS/ House at Rawang
Set within the green edges of Rawang, this home was designed as a calm and grounded living space that brings together familiar materials and cultural references. Created for a multi-generational family, it blends the needs of modern life with details that recall older ways of living.
Timber plays a central role throughout — not just as a surface finish, but as part of how the house feels and flows. From grooved wall panels to shelving, seating, and screens, wood is used to create warmth, rhythm, and a quiet sense of permanence. Natural light shifts across these surfaces during the day, adding softness and depth.
Cultural influences appear in small, thoughtful ways. Ming-style chairs, calligraphy, and carved timber benches are integrated into the larger design, not as decorative elements but as pieces that feel lived with. Screens, built-ins, and a sense of openness reflect an East Asian approach to space that values flow and balance.
Private spaces carry through the same materials and palette. The children’s room adds playfulness without breaking tone, while workspaces are built into corners and corridors — efficient, but still part of the home’s calm atmosphere.
